When you have a toothache, one of the first things you should do is call your dentist. But what if it is outside of their normal office hours? You might have to cope with your toothache on your own for a day or two. The pain may make it difficult to sleep. How can you get some rest even when your mouth is suffering? This blog post contains five tips that might help.

Try Over-the-Counter Pain Medications

Many people find relief from toothache pain with non-prescription painkillers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. These medications can help reduce inflammation and dull discomfort, making it easier to drift off. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging and consult a healthcare professional if you have questions about what is safe for you.

Use Natural Home Remedies

There are a few natural home remedies that may help to reduce tooth pain at night:

  • Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water can help reduce swelling and cleanse the affected area.
  • Applying a cold compress to your cheek may dull the pain and decrease inflammation.
  • Some people find that clove oil, dabbed gently onto the sore spot with a cotton swab, provides temporary numbing effects.

Keep Your Head Elevated
